Department of Area Studies cordially invites you to a seminar titled "Differential inclusion of Syrian refugees: Analyzing the real value of language in the Turkish labor market" by Dr. Massiam Nimer.

Dr. Maissam Nimer specializes in sociology of migration, education and gender with a regional focus on the Middle East and Turkey. She received her PhD in sociology from Paris Saclay University in 2016 studying the mechanisms of action of an internationally funded development program. She has since worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Migration Research Center, Koç University, and as a Mercator-IPC fellow at Sabanci University on various projects that tackle political and institutional structures and experiences surrounding forced migration. She also teaches as adjunct faculty at Galatasaray University. Her work has been published in international and regional academic journals including Gender and Education, Third World Quarterly, International Studies in Sociology of Education, as well as Idafat, Civil Society Review and New Middle East Studies Journal. She previously studied at the London School of Economics, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and the American University of Beirut.
